Ashiatsu Barefoot

Why train with Barefoot Bodyworks? You will get hands on training for the large marjority of class time. You will also receive training manuals to help you integrate your new modality when you are back in your own massage studio.

What is Barefoot Ashiatsu?

“Ashiatsu is an art, where the feet glide effortlessly over the contours of the client’s body. The pressure can be as light as a Swedish massage or the deepest massage a therapist can give using their body weight. The economy has changed and we have modified and adjusted our program to better fit your needs. One aspect of our teaching method is small class size. This allows trainees to better comprehend course material as your instructor’s focus is on the student who is performing the barefoot technique in a one on one situation. The Barefoot Bodyworks courses are focused on the “hands-on” technique of Ashiatsu. Please read reviews and be confident that your learning experience will be well worth your time and money!

Our detailed list of classes discusses each class individually, expectations and cost. Ashiatsu barefoot massage is based on an ancient Ayurvedic practice of Chavutti Thirummal. It combines Swedish, Myofascial, and compression techniques that are applied to the body with the therapist’s feet. Thereby, giving the hands and thumbs a rest. We offer introductory courses through advanced training – view our courses below.

Intro to Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage – 6 CE

 Arkansas & NCBTMB approved

This 6-hour introductory CEU course covers the seated portion of the Ashiatsu Barefoot routine, no overhead bars needed to perform this portion! I can teach this course in my office, a school setting, day spa, or any large room, given the ability to bring portable tables! Contact me for details about setting up class date! This class is generally not offered regularly but can be coordinated at your site.

Ashiatsu Bar Basic 18 CE’s

Are you interested in learning how to give massage using your feet?! You are in the right place – in Ashiatsu, the overhead Barefoot Bars are used for balance and support. You do not have to have a lot of upper body strength to perform Ashiatsu. There are no height or weight restrictions as long as the table can sustain both the weight of the client and the therapist. Ashiatsu treatments are a more effective application of deep tissue massage.

The pressure delivered by the massage therapist is constant and evenly maintained. Since the therapist is using their foot, which has more surface area than the hands or elbow, clients can tolerate more pressure. Ashiatsu brings about a relaxed state that lasts for hours after a massage service. Clients don’t walk out of a session – they float.

BARS ARE USED FOR BALANCE AND SUPPORT
NO HEIGHT OR WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS
PRESSURE IS CONSTANT AND EVENLY MAINTAINED
THERAPISTS ARE ABLE TO USE THIS MODALITY TO GIVE THEIR HANDS A BREAK
THIS THERAPY IS A MORE BALANCED APPROACH TO MASSAGE

The first deep tissue of the day is as good as the last one. There is none of the usual pain associated with a high volume deep tissue massage schedule for the therapist. Clients report they can tolerate more pressure because of the surface area of the foot. The therapist gains strength, knowledge, and grace while adding diversity and vitality to their workday. So you can do more of what you love, forever.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE ASHIATSU BAREFOOT MASSAGE BASIC CLASS

Ashiatsu training is an intensive and fun class dedicated to the preservation of the body worker. The Barefoot technique can feel very awkward in the beginning, however, by the end of day 2 therapists are fully confident in their ability to perform the strokes.

MANUAL: The Ashiatsu manual consists of pictures with descriptions and instructions that cover the entire posterior routine.
VIDEO: A video is provided as part of the course plan for students to access after class. Most of the training is spent on hands-on application of Ashiatsu technique.
LECTURE TIME: Time is spent discussing marketing and contraindications.
The final portion of the seminar is spent putting the routine together so it flows. A 45-minute practical is performed on the instructor, to fine tune the movements, pressure, and placement of the application. The main objective of the class is to ensure the success of every therapist in the class.
This class is contraindicated for those who have just had implant surgery for less than 9 months or pregnancy. For more information on Chavutti Thirummal click here.

Cost for the class is $495 per person. We accept cash, check, and credit card payments. This fee includes digital course manual and instructional video! If you are paying with a debit card, please consider writing a check to prevent the banking fees associated with using a card. (Thank you)

Class size limited to 3; Please give at least 72 hours cancelation notice as there is typically a wait list of others that could take your spot given enough time to prepare.

This 18 hour CE course will be taught over a 2-day session; hours are from 9am to 7pm for day one, then 9am to 5pm for day two . Plenty of breaks will be given, however, please come to class well rested! I strongly suggest trainees bring snacks and a refrigerator is available for drink storage. I prefer students bring a lunch to eat at the clinic, or grab lunch and bring it back for better utilization of our class time.

Bring one fitted sheet, one pillow case (or face cradle cover), and one over-sized heavy towel for draping. Therapists need to have their feet freshly pedicured and wear no toe or ankle jewelry. You may want to bring a pair of house shoes to wear while training to keep your bare feet off the floor.

Therapists, please wear loose comfortable clothing. Yoga capris or pants work best; if you wear yoga pants we’ll roll the pant legs up to the knee. Men find basketball shorts or sweat pants to be most appropriate.

Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage Anterior & Advanced – 12 CE’s

Advanced Ashiatsu Bar 12 Hour CEU (Arkansas & NCBTMB approved) Tuition $375 – Class size limited to 4 students.
After completing the Basic Bar course and practicing your new barefoot strokes, return for this 12-hour class and learn how to deliver the anterior routine, advanced one-footed, and two-footed moves!

Your advanced training will include some very site-specific bodywork to allow for more time spent on your client’s “trouble” areas. While there are several double footed strokes in this training session; the majority of the strokes are performed with one foot. So this training is great for you even if you are not strong enough to pull your weight up with the overhead bars!

Ashiatsu Stretch – 12 CE’s

Ashiatsu Stretch Massage 12 Hour CE (Arkansas & NCBTMB approved)
How about learning to use your Ashiatsu bars to deliver some Thai style stretches?? Ashi – Stretch is a brand-new class offered by Barefoot Bodyworks to do just that! I have been using facilitated stretching in my massage practice for years with fabulous results. Using the overhead or floor bars makes this type of bodywork nearly effortless! No more bending over at the waist and risking injury to your own body for some big, full body stretches!

This technique is great to add to your current Ashiatsu protocol or as a stand-alone service. Clients can stay fully dressed while you work your magic in a sequence of stretches and compressions designed to help relieve pain!
What you need to bring for class: Therapists, wear loose, comfortable clothing. Your feet need to be freshly pedicured for class. We will break for lunch – please bring drinks and snacks if needed.

Tuition of $275 includes digital manual and video – no other Ashiatsu experience required for taking this course
